* For every space weather event, an alert gets sent. During solar maximum the number of space weather events that are sent out can be numerous. You can turn off different types of alerts on the app.
** Geomagnetic activity alerts are sent out every 3 hours if Kp is above storm level.
*** Not enabled by default on the app

How to get alerts?

Android

  1. Install our app from the Google Play Store
  2. Open the app and enjoy our notifications.
  3. To enable or disable some of the alerts you want to receive, click in the App menu on “Manage push alerts”.

Apple

  1. Install our app from the App Store
  2. Open the SpaceWeatherLive app
  3. You’ll be asked for your permission to send you notifications, accept this to receive them.
  4. To enable or disable some of the alerts you want to receive, click in the App menu on “Manage push alerts”.
  1. Install the official Twitter App on your smartphone/tablet
  2. Open the Twitter app
  3. Go to our profile @_SpaceWeather_ and follow our Twitter account
  4. On our profile page, click on the bell icon next to the gear icon
  5. Tap on “All Tweets” to start receiving all the alerts/notifications
  1. When browsing our website, click the bell icon in the downright corner
  2. Click on the button ‘Subscribe’
  3. The browser will give a pop-up window to allow notifications from our website, please give us the permission so you'll get all of our alerts
  4. A message will be displayed if it all went correctly
Browser support is limited to Safari, Firefox and Chrome.

How do I turn off alerts?

If you wish to disable one of the alerts above, go the the app-menu to "Manage push alerts" and turn off the alerts you don't want to receive anymore. You can always re-enable them in the same screen.

If you want to completely disable all alerts, follow these instructions:

Android

  1. Go on your Android device to settings
  2. Tap “Apps & notifications”
  3. Tap on the app SpaceWeatherLive
  4. Tap “App notifications”
  5. Switch the app notifications to “Off”

Apple

  1. On your iDevice go to Settings
  2. Scroll down to the list of apps and click SpaceWeatherLive
  3. Click on “Notifications”
  4. Switch the setting “Allow notifications” to “Off”
  1. Open the Twitter app
  2. Go to our profile @_SpaceWeather_ and follow our Twitter account
  3. On our profile page, click on the bell icon
  4. Tap on “None” to disable our notifications
  1. When browsing our website, click the bell icon in the downright corner
  2. Click on the button ‘Unsubscribe’
  3. A message will be displayed if it all went correctly

Coronal hole faces Earth

The anticipated strong G3 geomagnetic storm watch never materialized as the coronal mass ejection that was supposed to arrive early yesterday didn't arrive until today just past midnight UTC. The impact was very lackluster with the Bt (total strength of the IMF) increasing to a moderate 15nT at best and the solar wind speed reaching just 420km/s. A far cry from the anticipated 700 to 800km/s. That once again goes to show how hard it is to forecast space weather events and any resulting geomagnetic conditions. We remain under the influence of the CME and high latitude sky watchers should remain alert for some nice aurora displays but middle latitude sky watchers will probably have to wait for the next opportunity.
